ADJUSTMENTS
Top Linkage Alignment
NOTE: Ensuring that these adjustments are correct may also cure water leaks and
component squeaks.
NOTE: When making adjustments to the top linkage, be aware of possibly causing
wrinkles in the vinyl material. Adjustments should be kept to a minimum and
avoided completely, if possible. If a linkage adjustment is necessary, it may
be necessary to reset the top material tacking strips (LH, Rear, and/or RH) to
keep the vinyl smooth.
Inspection
NOTE: Prior to making any adjustments, check the overall fit of the top
mechanism to the vehicle with the top in the latched position. Pay particular
attention to the following areas: Side-to-side fit of top to windshield header;
it should be centered. Refer to Inboard/Outboard and Dowel Pin Adjustment.

- Measure the distance from the belt line (character line) at the rear of
the door opening to the lower outside edge of the top rail casting. Measure
in-line with the vertical face of the opening tilting inboard to the lower edge
of the rail casting. The distance should be 428.63 ± 3.18mm
(16-7/8 ± 1/8 inch) and equal within 3.18mm (1/8 inch) from
one side of the vehicle to the other.

- Location of side rails to door glass and quarter window glass.
Weatherstrip seals should fit the same on both sides. Refer to Rail Alignment.

- Check the fit of the leading edge of the C-pillar to the quarter window
moulding. The vinyl should not be tight against the moulding and the clearance
should be the same on both sides. Refer to Up/Down Adjustment and Fore/Aft
Adjustment.

- Release the top latches and check the latches for freedom of movement.
Ensure the toggle hooks completely disengage from the striker plates. Latch the
top, noting the effort required to lock the latch in place. Refer to Latch
Adjustment.

- Cycle the top up and down at least three times and lock the latches each
time, checking the latch effort. Observe the operation of the top in the
following areas while cycling the top:
- Check the alignment of the dowel pins to the corner striker plates. Refer
to Dowel Pin Adjustment.

- Check the alignment of the quarter window weatherstrip to the window. Refer
to Quarter Window Adjustments.

- Check for any binding, squeaking or rubbing of the top mechanism during the
full up/down cycle. The mechanism should travel smoothly with no jerkiness, and
both sides should travel at an even rate. Refer to Hydraulic System Diagnosis.
