Hydraulic System

Top Hesitates and/or Comes Up Uneven

• Check for pinched hydraulic lines.
• Check for broken top assembly pivot or pivot pin.
• Check for hydraulic cylinder disengaged from pivot.
• Check for hydraulic cylinder leakage.
• Check and fill hydraulic reservoir.

Top Does Not Raise, or Does Not Go All the Way Up

Check and fill hydraulic reservoir.  

CONVERTIBLE TOP DOES NOT RAISE OR LOWER

A1 CHECK CIRCUIT 298

• Disconnect connector from top switch.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Connect a 12 volt test lamp between Circuit 298 (P/O) and a good ground.

• Does test lamp light?

GO to A2.

No
SERVICE open or short-to-ground in Circuit 298 (P/O). REPLACE fuse. REPEAT test.

 

A2 CHECK TOP SWITCH

• Reconnect connector to top switch.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Use a 12 volt test lamp to back probe Circuits 588 (P) and 688 (GY/LB).

• Toggle switch to raise position to check circuit 588 (P) and to lower position to check Circuit 688 (GY/LB).

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A3.

No
REPLACE switch. REPEAT test.

 

A3 CHECK CIRCUIT 588 (P)

• Disconnect connectors from raise relay.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Connect a 12 volt test lamp between Pin 2, Circuit 588 (P) and a good ground.

• Toggle switch to the raise position.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A4.

No
SERVICE open or short-to-ground in Circuit 588 (P). RECONNECT connector and RECHECK top operation.

 

A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 688 (GY/LB)

• Disconnect connector from lower relay.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Connect a 12 volt test lamp between Pin 2, Circuit 688 (GY/LB) and a good ground.

• Toggle switch to the lower position.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A5.

No
SERVICE open or short-to-ground in Circuit 688 (GY/LB). RECONNECT connector and RECHECK top operation.

 

A5 CHECK CIRCUIT 175 (BK/Y)

• Key in OFF position.

• Connect a 12 volt test lamp between Circuit 175 (BK/Y) and a good ground at Pin 3 of both relay connectors.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A6.

No
REPLACE connectors and RECHECK top operation. SERVICE open or short-to-ground in Circuit 175 (BK/Y). REPLACE fuse.

 

A6 CHECK RELAYS GROUND

• Key in OFF position.

• Connect a self-powered test lamp between Pin 1, Circuit 57 (BK) and a good ground of each relay connector.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A7.

No
SERVICE relay ground Circuit 57 (BK). RECONNECT connectors and RECHECK top operation.

 

A7 CHECK RAISE RELAY OPERATION

• Reconnect connector to raise relay.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Use a 12 volt test lamp to back probe Pin 4, Circuit 902 (Y).

• Toggle top switch to the raise position.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A8.

No
REPLACE raise relay. RECHECK top operation.

 

A8 CHECK LOWER RELAY OPERATION

• Reconnect connector to lower relay.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Use a 12 volt test lamp to back probe Pin 4, Circuit 903 (R).

• Toggle top switch to the lower position.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
GO to A9.

No
REPLACE lower relay. RECHECK top operation.

 

A9 CHECK CIRCUIT 902 (Y) AND 903 (R)

• Disconnect top motor connector.

• Turn key to RUN position.

• Connect a 12 volt test lamp between circuits 902 (Y) and 903 (R) and a good ground.

• Toggle top switch to raise and lower.

• Does test lamp light?

Yes
REPLACE motor. RECHECK top operation.

No
SERVICE open or short-to-ground in Circuit 902 (Y) or 903 (R). RECONNECT motor connector and RECHECK top operation.
