ADJUSTMENTS
Latch Effort Adjustment
Inspection
NOTE: Prior to making any adjustments to the latch effort, the top linkage
alignment at the header and dowel pin to guide pin holes must be set. Refer to Top Linkage Alignment
and Dowel Pin Adjustments.
NOTE: It may be necessary to use the power switch to completely release or
latch the J-hooks. It is not considered excessive latch effort if the top must
be powered up or down to latch and release the J-hooks.
- Release the latch mechanisms and verify that the handle linkage is free
from binding.
- Note if the J-hook completely disengages from the guide pin holes with no
external downward force required.
- Latch the top, noting the difficulty required to completely lock the
lever in place.
- Cycle the top three times and latch the top each time.
Adjustment
Low Effort
If the top latch effort is low, adjust as follows:
NOTE: This condition is usually accompanied by water and/or wind leaks at the
header.

- Loosen the J-hook setscrew.
- Rotate the J-hook one turn clockwise and check latch effort. Repeat this
procedure until maximum effort is obtained without excessive latch effort.
- Tighten the setscrew.
- Apply a light film of water to the header seal and latch the top. Unlatch
the top and visually inspect the seal contact marks across the header. If this
mark is uneven, adjust or replace the seal as necessary.
High Effort
If the top latch effort is high, adjust as follows:
- Loosen the J-hook setscrew.
NOTE: The J-hook installed length must not exceed 25.4mm (1 inch). If the latch
effort is still too high, look for interference between the top welding and/or
header seal and the header. Adjust or replace, as necessary. Check latch effort.
- Rotate the J-hook one turn counterclockwise and check latch effort. Repeat
this procedure until maximum latch effort is obtained without excessive latch
effort.
- Tighten the setscrew.
