Pinpoint Test—Fog Lamps

PINPOINT TEST EA: FOG LAMPS INOPERATIVE

EA1 CHECK SUPPLY TO FOG LAMP SWITCH

• Actuate fog lamp switch to the ON position.

• Gain access to the fog lamp switch connector. Disconnect the fog lamp switch .

• Using a test lamp connected to a known good ground, connect other end to Circuit 13 (R/BK) at fog lamp switch connector.

• Did test lamp illuminate?

GO to EA2.

No
SERVICE Circuit 13 (R/BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA2 CHECK FOG LAMP SWITCH GROUND

• Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 57 (BK) Pin 3 at fog lamp switch connector. Measure resistance.

• Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

Yes
GO to EA3.

No
SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA3 CHECK SWITCH OUTPUT TO RELAY

• Reconnect fog lamp switch .

• Actuate fog lamp switch to the ON position.

• Using a test lamp connected to ground, check Circuit 275 (Y) Pin 2 at fog lamp switch .

• Did test lamp illuminate?

Yes
GO to EA4.

No
REPLACE damaged fog lamp switch . RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA4 CHECK FOG LAMP SWITCH INPUT AT RELAY

• Gain access to fog lamp relay at power distribution box and harness .

• Using a test lamp connected to a known good ground, check Circuit 275 (Y) seat regulator control switch .

• Did test lamp illuminate?

Yes
GO to EA5.

No
SERVICE Circuit 275 (Y) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA5 CHECK BATTERY SUPPLY TO RELAY

• Using test lamp check Circuit 477 (LB/BK) at relay connector.

• Did test lamp illuminate?

Yes
GO to EA6.

No
SERVICE Circuit 477 (LB/BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA6 CHECK FOG LAMPS RELAY GROUND

• Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 57 (BK) at relay connector. Measure resistance.

• Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

Yes
GO to EA7.

No
SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA7 CHECK RELAY OUTPUT TO FOG LAMPS

• Actuate fog lamp switch to the ON position.

• Using a test lamp, check Circuit 478 (T/O) for voltage.

• Did test lamp illuminate?

Yes
GO to EA8.

No
REPLACE fog lamp relay . RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA8 CHECK SUPPLY AT FOG LAMPS

• Gain access to fog lamp connectors. Disconnect fog lamps .

• Using test lamp, check Circuit 478 (T/O) for voltage.

• Did test lamp illuminate?

Yes
GO to EA9.

No
SERVICE Circuit 478 (T/O) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

 

EA9 CHECK FOG LAMPS GROUND

• Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 57 (BK) at fog lamp connector. Measure resistance.

• Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

Yes
REPLACE fog lamp (s). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

No
SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
