Section 07-14A: Manual Lever Position Sensor | 1994 Mustang Workshop Manual |
If DTCs are present while performing the On-Board Diagnostic, refer to the On-Board Diagnostic Trouble Code Description Chart for the appropriate service procedure.
NOTE: Prior to entering Pinpoint Tests, refer to any TSBs and OASIS messages for transmission concerns.
NOTE: Prior to entering Pinpoint Tests, the vehicle harness must be checked for continuity and shorts; the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) must be checked for any concerns. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual for proper procedures.
NOTE: If any non-transmission DTCs appear, service those codes first. They could affect the electrical operation of the transmission. Record and erase codes from continuous memory after service has been performed. After servicing any DTCs in the Quick Test, the Quick Test should be repeated.
NOTE: Check powertrain control module wiring harness for proper connections, bent or broken pins, corrosion, loose wires, proper routing, proper seals and their condition. Check the powertrain control module , sensors and actuators for physical damage.
| 4 Digit DTCa | 3 Digit DTCb | Component | Description | Condition | Symptom | Reference / Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P1709 | 522 | MLP | MLP not in PARK | Self test not run in PARK. | Rerun self test in PARK. | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
| P1709 | 634 | MLP | MLP out of range | Indicated voltage drop across MLP sensor exceeds limits established for each position. Misadjusted sensor. | Harsh engagements, firm shift feel, no crank in NEUTRAL, improper shifts. | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
| P1705 | 654 | MLP | MLP not indicating PARK during KOEO | Self-test not run in PARK | Rerun self-test in PARK | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
| P1706 | 659 | MLP | MLP indicating PARK during operation | MLP sensor indicating PARK during operation. | EPC pressure high, all shifts firm. | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
| P0707 | 667 | MLP | MLP circuit below minimum voltage | MLP sensor, circuit or PCM shorted or grounded. | Increase in EPC pressure. | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
| P0708 | 668 | MLP | MLP circuit above maximum voltage | MLP sensor, circuit or PCM indicates open. | Increase in EPC pressure. | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
| P0705 | 675 | MLP | MLP circuit voltage out of range | MLP sensor, circuit or PCM operating erratically. | Increase in EPC pressure. | Refer to Pinpoint Tests. |
This Pinpoint Test is designed to diagnose the Manual Lever Position (MLP) Sensor electrical system ONLY. To prevent replacement of good components, note that the following areas may be at fault:
