Safety Belt Procedure After A Collision

 WARNING: ALL SAFETY BELT ASSEMBLIES INCLUDING RETRACTORS, BUCKLES, FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLE SUPPORT ASSEMBLIES (SLIDE BAR), IF SO EQUIPPED, AND ATTACHING HARDWARE SHOULD BE INSPECTED AFTER ANY COLLISION. ALL BELT ASSEMBLIES SHOULD BE REPLACED UNLESS A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN FINDS THE ASSEMBLIES SHOW NO DAMAGE AND OPERATE PROPERLY. BELT ASSEMBLIES NOT IN USE DURING A COLLISION SHOULD ALSO BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF EITHER DAMAGE OR IMPROPER OPERATION IS NOTED.

Before installing the new safety belt assembly, the safety belt attaching areas must be inspected for damage and distortion. If the attaching points are damaged and distorted, the sheet metal must be worked back to its original shape and structural integrity.

Install the new safety belt(s) as outlined. Perform Function Test Procedure.

 

Safety Belt Twisted at the Safety Belt Guide

  1. Grasp belt webbing at the front safety belt guide (613D10) .

    NOTE: For the rear seat safety belt guide, it is necessary to remove the quarter trim panel (31012) to access the safety belt guide. Refer to Section 01-05.





  1. Rotate and fold the belt webbing over itself as required to remove the twist.
  1. Feed the folded portion of the belt through the safety belt guide.
  1. When completed, safety belt tongue should face inward.
