Daytime Running Lamp System

The daytime running lamp (DRL) system is designed to turn the high-beam headlamps (13008) ON, with a reduced light output and without illuminating the high-beam indicator in the instrument panel (04320) , when the following conditions are met:

• The ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position.
• The parking brake is fully released.
• The headlamp switch (11654) is in the OFF or parking lamp position.

This system is required by the Canadian government regulation for vehicles sold in Canada.

The DRL system uses daytime running lights control (15A272) located on the LH front fender apron (16054) , inside the front fender splash shield (16102) .

• The wiring is connected to the headlamp dash panel junction wire (14290) assembly and is routed through a hole forward of the strut tower.
• The DRL output consists of rapidly pulsating short bursts of power. This output cannot be measured using most multi-meters.
• Daytime running lights control output cannot be adjusted.

 WARNING: DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS CONTROL GETS VERY HOT DURING OPERATION. BE SURE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS CONTROL HAS COOLED BEFORE HANDLING IT.
