REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Horn Switch

 

With Air Bag

 WARNING: ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SERVICING AN AIR BAG VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG.

 WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY AND BACKUP POWER SUPPLY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED FOR ONE MINUTE TO DE-ENERGIZE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

 

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. Disconnect backup power supply.
  1. Remove driver side air bag module .



  1. Remove wire retaining "organizer."



  1. With a screwdriver, carefully pry horn blow switch from steering wheel spoke.



  1. Disconnect electrical connectors and remove horn blow switch and wires.
 

Installation

  1. Insert horn blow switch wires through opening in steering wheel spoke.
  1. Press horn blow switch into steering wheel spoke.



  1. Connect electrical connectors and install wire retaining "organizer."
  1. Position driver side air bag module on steering wheel and install four nut and washer assemblies. Tighten to 4-5.6 Nm (35-53 lb-in).



  1. Connect backup power supply.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
