The speedometer (17255) displays vehicle speed to indicate how many kilometers (miles per hour) the vehicle is moving. The speedometer receives a voltage signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731) (VSS). The VSS is a small permanent magnet generator that is driven by a gear inside the transmission. The VSS outputs a voltage that varies according to the vehicle road speed.
