REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Steering Column Lock Housing Bearing

 

Upper

Removal

  1. Remove lock cylinder housing (22074) from steering column tube (3514) assembly as outlined.
  1. Suitably support lock cylinder housing and tap out small steering column tube bearing (3517) with an appropriate drift and a plastic hammer.



 

Installation

  1. Suitably support lock cylinder housing .
  1. Position new small steering column tube bearing into lock cylinder housing as shown. Tap into place with a plastic hammer and bushing driver installer or socket the same size as outer race of steering column tube bearing .







 

Intermediate

Removal

  1. Remove lock cylinder housing as outlined.
  1. Set lock cylinder housing flat on workbench and tap large steering column tube bearing loose with suitable drift and a hammer.



 

Installation

  1. Support lock cylinder housing on workbench.
  1. Position new large steering column tube bearing into lock cylinder housing as shown.







  1. Using a socket or bushing driver the same size as outer race of steering column tube bearing , tap steering column tube bearing into lock cylinder housing with a hammer until fully seated.



 

Lower

Removal

  1. Remove steering column lower bearing retainer (3D681) assembly as outlined.



  1. Suitably support steering actuator housing (3F723) and tap out steering column tube bearing with a hammer and a drift.
 

Installation

  1. Inspect steering column tube bearing sleeve (3518) . Replace if damaged.



  1. Position steering column tube bearing sleeve in steering actuator housing .



  1. Press the new steering column tube bearing with thumb pressure, until seated. Slot between inner and outer races should face down when out from the steering column lower bearing retainer .
  1. Install steering column lower bearing retainer on steering column tube as outlined.
