Always flush the power steering gear (3504)
when replacing the power steering pump (3A674)
due to fluid contamination.
Remove the power steering pump
and power steering pump pulley (3A733)
, and service the power steering pump
. Refer to Section 11-02.
Install the power steering pump pulley
on the serviced power steering pump
. Install the power steering pump
. Flush the power steering pressure hose (3A719)
before installing. Connect only the power steering pressure hose
.
Place the power steering return hose (3A713)
from the steering gear
in a container, and plug the reservoir return line.
Fill the power steering oil reservoir (3A697)
with Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA or
equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M2C33-F.
Disconnect ignition coil wire and raise the front wheels (1007)
off the ground. Make sure vehicle is not in
gear. Refer to Section 00-02.
While adding approximately 1.9 liters (0.5 gallon) of fluid, turn the ignition switch (11572)
to the ON position (using the ignition key) and crank
the engine with the starter while turning the steering wheel (3600)
from left to right.
When all the fluid has been added, turn ignition switch
to the OFF position and connect the ignition coil wire.
Remove the plug from the reservoir return line and connect the line to the power steering oil reservoir
.
Check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary. Do not
overfill the power steering oil reservoir
.
Lower the vehicle.
Turn the steering wheel
from lock-to-lock without hitting the stops to expel any
trapped air.
