Connecting Rod and End, Front Wheel Spindle

Removal

  1. Remove and discard the cotter pin and nut from the worn front wheel spindle connecting rod or end (3A130) .
  1. Disconnect front wheel spindle connecting rod or end from steering spindle, using Tie Rod End Remover TOOL-3290-D or equivalent.
  1. Holding the front wheel spindle connecting rod or end with a wrench, loosen the front wheel spindle connecting end jam nut.
  1. Grip the front wheel spindle connecting rod (3280) with a pair of suitable pliers, and remove the front wheel spindle connecting rod or end assembly from the front wheel spindle connecting rod , but first note the depth to which the front wheel spindle connecting rod was located by using the jam nut as a marker.
 

Installation

  1. Clean the front wheel spindle connecting rod threads.
  1. Thread the new front wheel spindle connecting rod or end onto the front wheel spindle connecting rod to the same depth as the removed tie rod end.
  1. Place the front wheel spindle connecting end stud into the steering spindle. Ensure front wheels (1007) are in the straight ahead position.
  1. Install a new nut on the front wheel spindle connecting end stud. Tighten the nut to 48-63 Nm (35-47 lb-ft), and continue tightening the nut to align the next castellation of the nut with the cotter pin hole in the stud. Install a new cotter pin.
  1. Set toe to specification. Refer to Section 04-00. Tighten the jam nut to 48-68 Nm (35-50 lb-ft).
