Shift Interlock Cable

 

Removal and Installation

  1. Remove console. Refer to Section 01-12.
  1. Remove LH lower instrument panel trim and lower steering column shroud (3530) .
  1. Remove ignition/shifter interlock cable retaining screw and disconnect ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) from shift lever cam.
  1. Remove steering column retaining nuts and lower steering column tube (3514) to floor.
  1. Remove ignition/shifter interlock cable retaining clip. Disconnect electrical connector at solenoid.
  1. Remove ignition/shifter interlock cable retaining screw from steering column tube .
  1. Guide ignition/shifter interlock cable out from under console brackets.
  1. To install, reverse Steps 1 through 8. Tighten steering column tube retaining nuts to 34-46 Nm (25-34 lb-ft).
  1. Tighten ignition/shifter interlock cable retaining screw at steering column tube to 3.1-4.3 Nm (27-38 lb-in) and at shift control selector lever and housing (7210) to 1.6-2.2 Nm (14-19 lb-in).
  1. Test for proper operation. The ignition switch (11572) key should only be removable with the shift lever in PARK. The shifter should be locked in PARK with the key removed. The shifter should also be locked in PARK with the ignition switch key in the ON position, and be released when the service brakes are applied.
