DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
Description
The Traction-Lok axle assembly, except for the differential case and its
internal components, is identical to the conventional axle.
The Traction-Lok differential has the following characteristics:
- Employs two sets of differential clutch packs (4947)
to control differential action.
- Differential side gear mounting distance is controlled by differential clutch packs
.
- Differential clutch packs consist of seven plates (four steel, three friction) and one rear axle differential clutch shim (4A324)
.
- Differential clutch packs are installed on differential side gears (4236)
and housed in the differential case (4204)
.
- One-piece differential clutch spring (4214)
applies initial force to the differential clutch packs.
- Friction plates are dogged to differential case
.
- Steel plates are splined to differential side gear
.
- Differential side gears are splined to axle shafts (4234)
