Crankshaft Position Sensor

The crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) (6C315) is:

The crankshaft damper has a 36 minus 1 tooth wheel attached. When the data wheel rotates, the magnetic field (Reluctance) of the sensor will change in relationship to the teeth of the data wheel. This change with the magnetic field is called the CKP signal.

The wide space (minus 1 tooth) on the data wheel, allows the ignition control module (ICM) (12K072) to determine:

Base ignition timing is set at 10 degrees BTDC and is not adjustable.
