Connecting Rod Bearings

The connecting rod bearings are a selective fit. Refer to procedures in Section 03-00.

 

Removal

  1. Drain the crankcase. Remove the oil level indicator (6750) dipstick. Remove the oil pan (6675) and related parts.
  1. Remove the oil pan , oil pump screen cover and tube (6622) and the oil pump intermediate shaft (6A618) if not removed with oil pan .
  1. Turn the crankshaft (6303) until the connecting rod (6200) to which new bearings are to be fitted is down. Remove the connecting rod cap. Remove the bearing inserts from the connecting rod and cap.
 

Installation

  1. Ensure bearing inserts and the bearing bore in the connecting rod and cap are clean. Foreign material under the bearings will distort the bearing and cause a failure.
  1. Clean the crankshaft journal.
  1. Install the bearing inserts in the connecting rod and cap with the tangs fitting in the slots provided.
  1. Pull the connecting rod assembly down firmly on the crankshaft journal.
  1. Select fit the bearing following procedures under Fitting Main and Connecting Rod Bearings in Section 03-00.
  1. After the bearing has been fitted, clean and apply a light coat of engine oil XO-10W30-QSP or -DSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E to the journal and bearings. Install the connecting rod cap. Tighten the nuts to 26-32 Nm (19-24 lb-ft).
  1. Clean the oil pump screen cover and tube . Prime the oil pump (6600) by filling the inlet opening with clean engine oil XO-10W30-QSP or DSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E and rotate the pump shaft until oil emerges from the outlet opening. Install the oil pump and the oil pump screen cover and tube .
  1. Position the oil pan gasket (6710) on the cylinder block (6010) , engine front cover (6019) and rear main bearing cap. Install the oil pan and related parts. Install the oil level indicator .
  1. Fill the crankcase. Start the engine and check for oil pressure. Operate the engine at fast idle and check for oil leaks.
