With No. 1 piston on the top dead center (TDC) at the end of compression
stroke, (Position No. 1 in the illustration), check the following valves:
When compressing valve spring (6513) to remove push rods (6565)
, ensure piston (6108)
in individual cylinder is below TDC to avoid contact between valve and piston
. To replace a push rod
, it will be necessary to loosen the rocker arm fulcrum bolt and rotate rocker arm (6564)
to the side. Upon replacement of a push rod
, rocker arm
or hydraulic valve tappet (6500)
, the engine should not be cranked or rotated until valve tappets
have an opportunity to leak down to their normal operating position.
The leakdown rate can be accelerated by using a valve tappet bleed-down wrench
on rocker arm
and applying pressure in a direction to collapse valve tappet
.
