REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Camshaft Bearings

Removal

  1. Remove engine from vehicle as outlined.
  1. Remove flywheel (6375) and engine rear plate (7007) .
  1. Remove camshaft (6250) as outlined. Loosen lower intake manifold (9424) bolts.
  1. Remove crankshaft (6303) as outlined, and push pistons (6108) to top of cylinder bore.
  1. Remove camshaft rear bearing cover (6266) from rear of cylinder block (6010) .
  1. Select proper size expanding collet and backup nut and assemble on expanding mandrel from Camshaft Bearing Set T65L-6250-A. With expanding collet collapsed, install collet assembly in camshaft bearing. Tighten backup nut on expanding mandrel until collet fits camshaft bearing.
  1. Assemble puller screw and extension if necessary, and install on expanding mandrel. Wrap a cloth around threads of puller screw to protect front bearing or journal. Tighten pulling nut against thrust bearing and pulling plate to remove camshaft bearing. Hold a wrench on end of puller screw to prevent it from turning.
  1. Repeat this procedure for each camshaft bearing. To remove front camshaft bearing, install puller screw from rear of cylinder block .
 

Installation

Camshaft bearings are available refinished to size for standard and 0.38mm (0.015 inch) undersize journal diameters. The bearings are not interchangeable from one bore to another.

 CAUTION: Failure to use correct expanding collet can cause severe bearing damage. Ensure front camshaft bearing is installed at specified distance below front face of cylinder block.

  1. Position new camshaft bearings at bearing bores with oil holes aligned with holes in cylinder block. Press them in place using Camshaft Bearing Set T65L-6250-A. Center pulling plate and puller screw to avoid damage to camshaft bearing.
  1. Install camshaft rear bearing cover as outlined.
  1. Install crankshaft as outlined.
  1. Retighten lower intake manifold bolts as outlined.
  1. Install camshaft as outlined.
  1. Install engine rear plate and flywheel as outlined.
  1. Install engine in vehicle as outlined.
