IN VEHICLE SERVICE

Oil Pan and/or Oil Pump Screen Cover and Tube

 

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Remove air cleaner outlet tube (9B659).
  1. Remove pushpins retaining radiator upper sight shield (8C291) and position radiator upper sight shield aside.
  1. Install Three Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
  1. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Remove front engine support insulator nuts.
  1. Partially lower vehicle.
  1. Raise engine with Three Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
  1. Raise vehicle.
  1. Remove starter motor (11002).
  1. Position drain pan.
  1. Drain engine oil.
  1. Remove oil bypass filter (6714).
  1. Remove starter motor wire, ground strap and automatic transmission oil cooler lines, and disconnect the right side oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  1. Remove oil pan-to-bell housing bolts and bolts at crankshaft position sensor lower shield.
  1. Remove remaining oil pan retaining bolts.
  1. Remove steering shaft pinch bolt and separate steering shaft.
  1. Position transmission jack under front sub-frame (5C145).
  1. Remove six rearward bolts on front sub-frame . Loosen two forward front sub-frame bolts.
  1. Lower front sub-frame.
  1. Remove oil pan (6675).
  1. Empty any residual oil from oil pan.

    A Tighten to 9-12 Nm (80-106 Lb-In)
  1. Remove oil pump screen cover and tube retainer bolts and support bracket nut. Remove oil pump screen cover and tube (6622) and discard oil pump inlet tube gasket (6626) .
 

Installation

NOTE: When using silicone rubber (RTV) sealer, assembly must occur within 15 minutes after sealer application. After this time, the sealer may start to set-up, and its sealing effectiveness may be reduced.

  1. Install oil pump screen cover and tube using a new oil pump inlet tube gasket . Tighten retainer bolts to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb-ft) and support bracket nut to 40-55 Nm (30-40 lb-ft).
  1. Clean mating surfaces of oil pan and cylinder block (6010) .
  1. Apply Silicone Gasket and Sealant F1AZ-19652-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G320-A2 to oil pan.
  1. Fit oil pan to cylinder block . Ensure enough clearance has been provided to allow oil pan to be installed without sealant being scraped off under cylinder block .
  1. Install oil pan retaining bolts at cylinder block and bell housing. Install crankshaft position sensor lower shield. Tighten to 9-12 Nm (80-106 lb-in).
  1. Raise front sub-frame into position.
  1. Install two forward front sub-frame bolts and six bolts at rear of front sub-frame . Refer to Section 02-01 for specifications, tightening sequence and alignment procedures.
  1. Connect steering shaft and install pinch bolt. Tighten to 41-57 Nm (30-42 lb-ft).
  1. Install transmission cooler lines (if equipped), starter wire harness and ground strap, and connect the right side oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  1. Install oil bypass filter .
  1. Install starter motor . Refer to Section 03-06.
  1. Partially lower vehicle.
  1. Lower engine with Three Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A or equivalent.

    NOTE: Seat LH side locating pin before RH side.

  1. Partially raise vehicle.
  1. Install front engine support insulator through bolts. Tighten to 47-68 Nm (35-50 lb-ft).
  1. Lower vehicle.
  1. Remove Three Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
  1. Install radiator upper sight shield and pushpins.
  1. Install air cleaner outlet tube.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
  1. Refill engine oil.
  1. Start engine and check for leaks.
