IN VEHICLE SERVICE

Camshaft

 

Removal

  1. Remove radiator (8005). Refer to Section 03-03.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, remove A/C condenser core (19712) . Refer to Section 12-03A.
  1. Remove radiator grille (8200). Refer to Section 01-02.
  1. Remove intake manifolds (9424) as outlined.
  1. Remove valve tappet (6500), valve tappet guide plate (6K512) and tappet guide plate and retainer (6K564) as outlined.
  1. Remove engine front cover (6019), timing chain and spacer as outlined.
  1. Remove oil pan (6675) as outlined.
  1. Remove camshaft thrust plate (6269).
  1. Remove camshaft (6250) through the front of the engine, being careful not to damage camshaft bearing surfaces and lobes.
 

Installation

Lightly oil retaining bolt and stud threads before installation except those specifying special sealant.

Inspect camshaft rear bearing cover (6266) for damage or leakage. Replace or reseal if necessary (engine removed).

  1. Lubricate the camshaft lobes and bearing surfaces with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.
  1. Install camshaft, being careful not to damage bearing surfaces and lobes while sliding into position.
  1. Install camshaft thrust plate. Tighten bolts to 8-14 Nm (6-10 lb-ft).
  1. Install engine front cover, timing chain and spacer as outlined.
  1. Install oil pan as outlined.
  1. Install valve tappet, valve tappet guide plate and tappet guide plate and retainer as outlined.
  1. Install intake manifold as outlined.
  1. Install radiator grille. Refer to Section 01-02.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, install A/C condenser core . Refer to Section 12-03A.
  1. Install radiator . Refer to Section 03-03.
