REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Instrument Panel

NOTE: Removal and installation of the instrument panel (04320) is best accomplished by two people.

 

Removal and Installation

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) , then disconnect positive battery cable.
  1. Disconnect all underhood wiring connectors from main wiring (14401) . Disengage rubber grommet seal from dash panel and push main wiring and connectors into passenger compartment. Refer to Section 18-01.
  1. Remove two screws retaining steering column opening cover (3A673) and instrument panel reinforcement (016B28) . Remove steering column opening cover .
  1. Remove instrument panel reinforcement by removing two bolts.

A Tighten to 7.6-10.4 Nm (68-92 Lb-In)
  1. Remove console panel (045A36) as outlined.
  1. Remove four nuts retaining steering column to lower instrument panel support. Lower steering column tube (3514) to floor.



  1. Remove upper and lower steering column shroud (3530) and disconnect wiring from turn signal and windshield wiper switch (13K359), ignition switch (11572) and shift solenoid (7G484).

    A Tighten to 1.6-2.2 Nm (15-19 Lb-In)
  1. Remove RH and LH side cowl side trim panel (02345) . Refer to Section 01-05.
  1. Disconnect wiring at RH and LH cowl sides.
  1. Remove instrument panel cowl side retaining bolts and nut (two screws on RH side, one screw and one nut on LH side).
  1. Remove instrument panel upper finish panel (044A90) .
  1. Remove three cowl top screw attachments.

    A Tighten to 7.6-10.4 Nm (68-91 Lb-In)
    B Tighten to 40-56 Nm (30-41 Lb-Ft)
  1. Gently pull instrument panel away from cowl. Disconnect air conditioner control (19980) , speedometer cable and wire connectors.
  1. If instrument panel is being replaced, transfer all components, wiring and hardware to new instrument panel .
  1. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Check operation of all components. Tighten instrument panel retaining screws to 7.6-10.4 Nm (68-91 lb-in). Tighten instrument panel retaining nut to 40-56 Nm (30-41 lb-ft). Tighten steering column opening cover and reinforcement to 7.6-10.4 Nm (68-91 lb-in). Tighten ignition switch connector to 1.6-2.2 Nm (15-19 lb-in).
