Section 13-01: Instrument Cluster—Conventional | 1994 Mustang Workshop Manual |
Brake System
The brake system warning indicator has two functions:
The park brake function is controlled by a parking brake signal switch and bracket (15A851) on the park brake actuator. The low brake fluid function is controlled by a anti-lock reservoir cap (2C251) on the brake master cylinder reservoir (2K478) .
Anti-Lock Brakes
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the anti-lock brake system is disabled. The warning lamp is controlled by the anti-lock brake control module (2B373) .
Check Engine
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the electronic engine control system is not working properly. The warning lamp is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) (PCM).
Charging System
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the battery is not being charged. The warning lamp is controlled by the Integral Generator Regulator (IGR).
Low Oil
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the level of oil in the engine is approximately 1.4 liters (1.5 qts.) low or lower. The warning lamp is controlled by the low oil level relay (6C625) which is provided a signal by a float-type low oil level sensor (6C624) mounted to the side of the engine oil pan. The low oil level relay contains a reset delay feature which requires approximately five minutes to reset after the oil light comes on from low oil level. For diagnostics, refer to Section 13-09A.
Low Coolant
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the level of coolant is below the FULL COLD mark on the radiator coolant recovery reservoir (8A080) . The warning lamp is controlled by the low coolant level warning sensor (10D968) .
Air Bag
The air bag indicator lamp is a readiness light to indicate the condition of the system. If the system is functioning properly, the light will stay on for six seconds after the ignition switch (11572) is turned to the ON position. If there is a problem with the system, two things may happen: the light will either flash or stay lit up, or you will hear a beeping sound. The indicator lamp is controlled by the air bag diagnostic monitor (14B056) .
Safety Belt
This warning indicator lamp light will stay on after initial start-up for four to eight seconds. Also, the light will stay on or come on if the driver's safety belt is not fastened. The warning lamp is controlled by the safety belt warning chime (10D840) and the safety belt warning indicator switch (10B924)
High Beam
This indicator lamp comes on when the headlamps are turned on and the dimmer switch is in the high beam position. The indicator lamp is controlled by both the headlamp switch (11654) and dimmer switch.
Turn Signals
The left or right turn indicators light when the turn signal and windshield wiper switch (13K359) is positioned in either the right or left turn location respectively. They will also flash simultaneously when the turn signal and windshield wiper switch has the hazard switch turned on.
Overdrive Off
The overdrive off indicator lights when the overdrive lockout switch (7G550) is turned to ON. The indicator lamp is controlled by the transmission control switch module.
Theft Alarm
The theft alarm indicator lamp will light when the anti-theft system is manually directed to arm itself. The light will stay on for 30 seconds after the door is closed. When the light goes out the system is armed. The lamp is controlled by the anti-theft alarm control (19A366) .
