SERVICE PROCEDURES
Preliminary Procedures
Perform the following preliminary procedures before disassembling power
steering:
Air Bleeding
If bubbles are present in the power steering fluid, bleed the system as
follows:
- Fill the power steering oil reservoir (3A697)
.
- Run the engine until the fluid reaches normal operating temperature of
74°-79°C (165°
-175°F).
CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel (3600)
in the far left or right position, or damage to power steering pump (3A674)
may result.
- Turn the steering wheel
all the way to the left and right several times.
- Check the fluid level.
- If air is still trapped in the system, refer to Purging Power Steering
System of Air.
Fluid Level
- Run the engine until the fluid reaches normal operating temperature of
74°-79°C (165°
-175°F).
- Turn the steering wheel
all the way to the left and right several times. Turn
the engine off.
CAUTION: Do not overfill the power steering oil reservoir
.
- Check the fluid level in the power steering oil reservoir
. If the level is low, add Premium Power Steering Fluid
E6AZ-19582-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M2C33-F.
Pump Belt
Replace and adjust broken, glazed or worn drive belts (8620)
. Refer to Section 03-05 for adjustment
procedure.
