Speed Control System

The speed control system consists of:

• The operator controls (located on the steering wheel (3600) ).
• A speed control servo (9C735) (throttle actuator) assembly.
• A vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731) .
• A clutch pedal position switch (CPP switch) (9A837) (manual transmission only).
• A speed control dump valve (9C727) .
• A speed control amplifier (9D843) .
• A horn relay and bracket (13853) .
• The necessary wires and vacuum hoses.

The speed control amplifier assembly is located under the instrument panel (04320) next to the brake pedal (2455) . The speed control servo assembly is mounted on the LH hinge pillar and is connected to the throttle linkage with a speed control actuator (9A825) cable. The speed control servo is connected to the speed control vacuum reservoir and to the manifold through the check valve as shown in the illustrations. The vehicle speed sensor is located on the transmission.

The speed control dump valve provides an additional safety feature in the system. Normally, when the brake pedal is applied:

• An electrical signal from the stoplight switch (13480) to the speed control amplifier will turn off the system.
• In addition, the speed control dump valve will mechanically release the vacuum in the speed control servo . This releases the throttle independently of the amplifier control.
