Symptom Chart: Accelerator Pedal to Accelerator Cable Diagnosis

SYMPTOM CHART: ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO ACCELERATOR CABLE DIAGNOSIS

  • Accelerator Pedal and Shaft are Hard to Push Down or Have a Rough/Raspy or Sticky Feel
  • Be sure that the disconnected end of the accelerator cable or its accelerator retracting spring does not come into contact with any of the surrounding parts.
  • Operate the accelerator pedal and shaft by foot.
  • If accelerator cable operation is smooth, accelerator cable is not damaged. Refer to PC/ED Manual, OBD I (5.0L) or OBD II (3.8L) for other checks.
  • If the condition recurs (being sure disconnected end of accelerator cable has not come into contact with anything), check the accelerator pedal and shaft for free operation.
  • Replace accelerator cable .
  • High Engine Idle Speed
  • If the socket does not extend beyond the stud, check the accelerator pedal and shaft for free operation.
  • Replace accelerator cable .
