Exhaust Shields

Service and/or Replacement

Exhaust shields, consisting of formed metal sheets, are attached to the exhaust system or welded to the catalytic converter.

Exhaust shields are not subject to service other than:

• Replacing missing or damaged clamps.
• Removing debris that may collect in the shield area.

If an exhaust shield is damaged or shows evidence of deterioration, it should be replaced rather than serviced.

Removal/Installation procedures are, in most cases, a matter of removing the shield attachments and shield:

• The muffler shields (5290) are clamped to the muffler body.
• The service catalyst shields are clamped to the catalyst shell.
• New service clamps must be used for reassembly.
