REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Clutch Pedal and Support

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) .
  1. Remove the driver seat to gain access to the pedal support. Refer to Section 01-10.
  1. Remove steering column gear input shaft coupling (3A525) . Refer to Section 11-04.
  1. Loosen the four nuts that retain the brake pedal (2455) to the dash panel (01610) . Loosen the screw retaining brake pedal to the cowl.
  1. Disconnect the stoplight switch and the brake booster push rod from the brake pedal .
  1. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch (CPP switch) (11A152) on the inboard side of the support from the wire harness, remove the valve hose, vacuum hose and wire routing retainers from the brake pedal .

     CAUTION: Do not allow quadrant to snap rearward.

  1. Rotate the clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft (7506) forward and unhook the clutch release lever cable (7535) from the clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft . Allow the clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft to slowly swing rearward.
  1. Remove the four booster nuts retaining brake pedal to the dash panel .
  1. Remove the bolt retaining brake pedal support bracket to the underside of the cowl. Remove the brake pedal support bracket assembly from the vehicle.
  1. Remove the clutch pedal shaft nut and the clutch pedal (7519) as outlined.
  1. Slide the self-adjusting mechanism out of the pedal support bracket (01508) .
  1. Remove the self-adjusting mechanism shaft bushings from either side of the pedal support bracket and replace, if worn.
 

Installation

  1. Lubricate the bushings with motor oil. Install the bushings and self-adjusting mechanism into the pedal support bracket .
  1. Position the clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft toward the top of the vehicle. Align the flats on the shaft with the flats in the clutch pedal assembly, and install the retaining nut. Tighten to 34-46 Nm (25-34 lb-ft).
  1. Position the pedal support bracket assembly beneath the instrument panel (04320) aligning the four holes with the studs in the dash panel . Loosely install the four nuts. Install the bolt through the pedal support bracket into the underside of cowl.
  1. Connect the stoplight switch and the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal .
  1. Install screw retaining brake pedal to the underside of cowl and tighten to 17.6-33.9 Nm (13-25 lb-ft).
  1. Tighten the four booster nuts retaining pedal support bracket to the dash panel to 17.6-33.9 Nm (13-25 lb-ft).
  1. Install the clutch release lever cable to the clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft .
  1. Connect steering column gear input shaft coupling . Refer to Section 11-04.
  1. Install wire and hose retaining clips to brake pedal .
  1. Connect switches to wires and seat the vacuum dump valve.
  1. Install the driver seat.
  1. Connect battery ground cable .
  1. Check steering column tube (3514) for proper operation.
  1. Press clutch pedal several times to seat the clutch release lever cable and lift up on the clutch pedal to adjust system.
