REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Shift Control Selector Lever and Housing

 

Removal

  1. Remove console assembly. Refer to Section 01-12.
  1. Disconnect ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) from the shift control selector lever and housing (7210) and the shifter interlock cam. Disconnect indicator lamp wire. Place shift lever in OVERDRIVE.
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Remove lower linkage retaining nut or ball link and disconnect transmission shift cable and bracket (7E395) .
  1. Remove shift cable retaining screws.
  1. Lower vehicle, remove shifter to floorpan retaining bolts. Remove shift control selector lever and housing assembly.
 

Installation

  1. Install shift control selector lever and housing with retaining bolts. Tighten to 5.9-8.1 Nm (4-6 lb-ft).
  1. Connect indicator lamp wire. Connect ignition/shifter interlock cable . Tighten retaining screw to 3.1-4.3 Nm (27-38 lb-in).
  1. Install console assembly. Refer to Section 01-12.
  1. Place shift lever in OVERDRIVE and apply a 1.4 kg (3 lb) rearward force to the lever.
  1. Raise vehicle.
  1. Make sure the transmission manual lever position sensor is in the OVERDRIVE position as outlined in Adjustments.
  1. Press transmission shift cable and bracket on ball stud and connect transmission shift cable and bracket to shifter bracket and tighten cable retaining screws to 17-23 Nm (13-17 lb-ft).
  1. Lower vehicle. Check for proper shifter operation.
