Brake Pedal and Bracket

Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) .

2. Disconnect the stoplight switch wire connector from the stoplight switch (13480) .

3. Remove the clutch cable from the clutch pedal (manual transmission vehicles). Refer to Section 08-02.

4. Loosen the four pedal support retaining nuts at the instrument cluster (10849) . Remove the push rod retainer and brake master cylinder push rod bushing (2474) . Slide the stoplight switch outboard along the brake pedal pin just far enough for the outer hole of the stoplight switch frame to clear the pin. Remove the stoplight switch by sliding it downward. Remove the black, stoplight switch brake master cylinder push rod spacer (2B129) from the push rod.

5. Remove the locknut from the pivot bolt. Pull the pivot bolt out, and remove the brake pedal (2455) .

Installation

1. Apply a coating of SAE 10W40 engine oil to the brake master cylinder push rod bushings . Locate bushings and pivot spacer in the brake pedal hub.

2. Position brake pedal assembly in the pedal support bracket (01508) and install the pivot bolt. Install locknut. Tighten the nut to 14-27 Nm (10-20 lb-ft).

3. Install the master cylinder push rod, and the black stoplight switch brake master cylinder push rod spacer on the brake pedal pin. Position the stoplight switch so that it straddles the push rod with the slot on the pedal pin and the switch outer frame hole just clearing the pin. Slide the stoplight switch upward onto the pin and push rod. Slide the assembly inboard toward the brake pedal . Install the outer brake master cylinder push rod bushing and the push rod retainer. Lock the retainer securely.

4. Tighten the four pedal support retaining nuts to 18-34 Nm (13-24 lb-ft).

5. Connect the stoplight switch wire to the stoplight switch .

6. Attach the clutch cable to the clutch pedal (manual transmission vehicles). Refer to Section 08-02 for installation and adjustment procedures.

7. Connect the battery ground cable .
