REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Control

 

Removal

  1. Place parking brake control (2780) in released position.
  1. Remove console top panel (044D90) . Refer to Section 01-12.
  1. Release cable tension as outlined under Adjustments.
  1. Disconnect parking brake cable and equalizer (2A603) from parking brake control .
  1. Remove bolts retaining parking brake control assembly to floorpan. Remove parking brake control assembly.

    A Tighten to 14-21 Nm (10-16 Lb-Ft)
 

Installation

  1. Route parking brake cable and equalizer around control assembly pulley. Insert cable anchor pin in pivot hole in ratchet.
  1. Connect parking brake rear cable and conduits (2A635) to parking brake cable and equalizer .
  1. With parking brake rear cable and conduits attached, position parking brake control assembly on floorpan. Install retaining bolts. Tighten to 14-21 Nm (10-16 lb-ft).

     WARNING: KEEP FINGERS CLEAR OF PARKING BRAKE CONTROL ASSEMBLY.

     CAUTION: Do not remove the steel lockpin until the parking brake rear cable and conduit are connected to the parking brake cable and equalizer . Pin removal releases the tension in the ratchet wheel causing the spring to unwind and release tension. If the pin is removed without the parking brake rear cable and conduit attached, the entire assembly must be removed to reset spring tension.

  1. Remove lockpin from parking brake control assembly to reset tension.
  1. Apply and release parking brake control several times. Ensure that parking brakes apply and release and that BRAKE indicator lights when brakes are applied.
  1. Install console top panel . Refer to Section 01-12.
