NOTE: The bolts used in this installation are made to metric specification and
require use of metric tools.
Place the ignition switch (11572)
in the UNLOCKED position to permit free movement of the
front wheels.
Raise vehicle by the lower front suspension lower arms (3078)
until the wheels are just off the ground.
Refer to
Section 00-02. From the engine compartment, remove and discard the two 10mm
upper mount retaining nuts and one 10mm stud. Vehicle should not be driven with
these nuts removed. Do not remove the pop-rivet holding the front suspension camber adjusting plate (3B391)
in position.
Continue to raise front of vehicle by front suspension lower arm
, and position safety stands under frame jacking pads,
rearward of the wheels.
Remove the tire and wheel (1007)
assembly.
Remove front disc brake caliper (2B120)
and rotate out of position. Refer to Section 06-03.
Remove front brake anti-lock sensor (2C204)
and bracket.
Remove the two lower nuts that attach the strut to the front wheel spindle (3105)
, leaving the bolts in place. Carefully remove both
spindle-to-strut bolts. Push bracket free of front wheel spindle
, then remove strut.
Compress the front shock absorber (18124)
to clear the front shock absorber mounting bracket (18183)
of the body mounting pad.
Remove front shock absorber upper mounting bracket (18A161)
from front shock absorber
if necessary.
Installation
Install front shock absorber upper mounting bracket
on front shock absorber
if removed.
Position the two upper mount studs into the body mounting pad and front suspension camber adjusting plate
, and start two new nuts and one stud.
Compress the front shock absorber
and position onto the front wheel spindle
.
Install two new lower retaining bolts, and hand-start nuts. Remove
suspension load from front suspension lower arms
by lowering the hoist. Tighten lower
retaining nuts to 191-259 Nm (141-191 lb-ft).
Raise front suspension lower arms
, and tighten the three new upper mount
retaining nuts
inside the engine compartment to 60-81 Nm (45-59 lb-ft).
Install front brake anti-lock sensor
and bracket. Tighten bracket nut to 23-32 Nm
(17-23 lb-ft).
Install the front disc brake caliper
. Refer to Section 06-03.
Install the tire and wheel
assembly. Tighten wheel hub bolt nuts (1012)
to 115-142 Nm (85-105
lb-ft).
Remove the safety stand, and lower vehicle to the ground.
Front wheel alignment should be checked and adjusted if out of
specification. Refer to Section 04-00.
