Camshaft End Play

 CAUTION: Prying against the camshaft sprocket (6256) with the valve train load on the camshaft (6250) can break or damage the sprocket. Therefore, the rocker arm retaining bolts must be backed off, so the rocker arm (6564) and seat are loosened sufficiently in order to free the camshaft . After checking the camshaft end play retighten the rocker arm retaining bolts.

  1. Push camshaft toward rear of engine. Install Rotunda Dial Indicator with Bracketry 014-00282 or equivalent so indicator point is on camshaft sprocket retaining bolt.



  1. Zero dial indicator. Pull camshaft forward and release it. Compare dial indicator reading with specifications. If end play is excessive, replace camshaft thrust plate (6269) .
  1. Remove dial indicator.
  1. After replacing camshaft thrust plate , check end play again. If it is still out of specified range, inspect camshaft and cylinder block (6010) for excessive wear.
