REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Support Insulators, Front Engine

 

3.8L Engine

Procedures apply to a RH or LH installation.

NOTE: Whenever self-locking mounting bolts and nuts are removed, they must be replaced with new self-locking mounting bolts and nuts. Prior to installing new self-locking mounting bolts (adhesive on threads), hardened residual bolt adhesive must be removed from the cylinder block bosses with an M10 X 1.5 bottoming tap.

 

Removal

  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Support the engine using a wood block and jack placed under the engine.
  1. Remove the nuts retaining both front engine support insulators (6038) to the crossmember (5025) .
  1. Disconnect shift linkage (automatic transmission).
  1. Raise the engine sufficiently to disengage the front engine support insulator studs from the crossmember .
  1. Remove the bolts and stud bolts retaining the front engine support insulators to the cylinder block (6010) . Remove the front engine support insulators .
 

Installation

  1. Position the front engine support insulators to the cylinder block . Install the retaining bolts and stud bolts. Tighten to 59-81 Nm (44-60 lb-ft).
  1. Lower the engine into position. Ensure that the front engine support insulators are seated flat on the crossmember and locating pins are in front sub-frame alignment hoses. Also ensure that the front engine support insulator studs are at the bottom of the slots. Lower engine completely. Install and tighten retaining nuts to 97-133 Nm (72-98 lb-ft).
  1. Install shift linkage (automatic transmission).
  1. Lower vehicle.

5.0L Engine

The front engine support insulators are located on each side of the cylinder block. The procedures given apply to either a RH or LH installation. Whenever self-locking mounting bolts and nuts are removed, they must be replaced with new self-locking bolts and nuts .

 

Removal

  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Support the engine using a jack and wood block placed under the engine.
  1. Remove the nuts attaching front engine support insulators to the crossmember .
  1. Disconnect shift linkage (automatic transmission).
  1. Raise the engine sufficiently with the jack to disengage the front engine support insulator studs from the crossmember .
  1. Remove the front engine support insulator assembly to cylinder block attaching stud bolts.
  1. Remove the front engine support insulators .
 

Installation

  1. Position the front engine support insulators on the cylinder block and install the attaching stud bolts. Tighten the stud bolts to 59-81 Nm (44-60 lb-ft).
  1. Lower the engine into position. Ensure that the front engine support insulators are seated flat on the crossmember and locating pins are in front sub-frame alignment holes. Also ensure that the front engine support insulator studs are at the bottom of the slots. Start the retaining nuts and tighten to 97-133 Nm (72-98 lb-ft).
  1. Connect shift linkage (automatic transmission).
  1. Lower vehicle.
