REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Sub-Frame, Front

 

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. Remove hood (16612) as outlined in Section 01-02.
  1. Install Three Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A or equivalent to existing engine lifting eyes.
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Remove front tires and wheels (1007). Refer to Section 04-04.
  1. Remove front coil springs as outlined in Section 04-01.
  1. Disconnect steering gear (3504) from steering shaft at steering coupling pinch bolt.
  1. Remove two nuts that attach steering gear to crossmember (5025) .
  1. Position steering gear away from crossmember and support steering gear with wire from front stabilizer bar (5482).
  1. Remove retaining nuts from front engine support insulator (6038) to crossmember .
  1. Support crossmember with adjustable jacks.
  1. Remove eight crossmember to body retaining bolts.
  1. With an assistant, lower adjustable jacks and allow crossmember to lower.
 

Installation

NOTE: Do not tighten front sub-frame to body bolts at this time.

  1. With an assistant, align crossmember to body. Support crossmember with adjustable jacks. Install eight crossmember to body bolts loosely.
  1. After crossmember alignment is complete, tighten eight crossmember-to-body bolts to 75-102 Nm (55-75 lb-ft). Remove adjustable jacks.
  1. Install front coil springs as outlined in Section 04-01.
  1. Position steering gear into position on crossmember.
  1. Install two retaining nuts that secure the steering gear to the crossmember . Tighten to 122-135 Nm (90-99 lb-ft).
  1. Install steering shaft to steering gear . Tighten steering coupling pinch bolt to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft).
  1. Install retaining nuts that secure the front engine support insulators to the crossmember . Tighten to 97-133 Nm (72-98 lb-ft).
  1. Install tires and wheels. Refer to Section 04-04.
  1. Lower hoist.
  1. Remove Three Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
  1. Install hood as outlined in Section 01-02.
  1. Connect battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Check front end alignment. Adjust if necessary. Refer to Section 04-00.
