Section 01-00: Body—Service | 1994 Mustang Workshop Manual |
NOTE: Perform major body straightening operations with body panels at room temperature.
To perform any major body service effectively, always use replacement parts that are identical in size, shape, and strength to that of the original parts and follow the repair procedures outlined.
NOTE: Follow all service instructions concerning the location of structural members in load-bearing areas.
Basically, the structural members are positioned to suit the shape and installation of the mechanical components fitted, such as engine (6007) , automatic transmission/transaxle (7000) , suspension, etc.
To avoid a possible reduction in strength and safety, restrict service to structural members on accident-damaged vehicles. To preserve the strength of the panel, dismantle the panel(s) at the original joints. Use an assembly and welding jig for such service operations as replacing longitudinal members and inner fender panels. Using a jig ensures a satisfactory service and adherence to the specified dimensions.
If servicing is properly carried out, all service procedures using replacement panels and members will result in the same standards of strength while maintaining operational safety.
