Inspect for Wheel Damage

Inspect the wheel hub bolt nuts (1012) and tighten to 115-142 Nm (85-105 lb-ft). Loose wheel hub bolt nuts can cause shimmy and vibration, and may also distort the stud holes in the wheels.

Ensure wheels (1007) and hub are clean. Stones wedged between the wheel and rotor or lumps of mud and grease can unbalance the wheel.

Check for wheel damage. Wobble or shimmy caused by a damaged wheel will eventually damage the bearings. Inspect the rims for dents that could leak air.

Inspect the front hubs and bearings whenever the hubs are removed, or at regular inspection intervals.

Install Wheel

1. Clean all dirt and corrosion from the hub mounting surface and center pilot hole of the wheel . Apply a thin film of Disc Brake Caliper Slide Grease D7AZ-19590-A (ESA-M1C172-A) or equivalent to the axle pilot flange to preclude corrosion.

2. Place wheel on the hub. Install the locking wheelcover pedestal (if used) and wheel hub bolt nuts . Tighten them alternately to draw the wheel evenly against the hub.

3. Lower vehicle. Tighten the wheel hub bolt nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-105 lb-ft).
