REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Suction or Discharge Manifold

NOTE: Two different O-rings are used on compressor manifolds and they are not interchangeable. One O-ring is black and the other is red. Each O-ring must be replaced with the same type and color O-ring.

Removal

  1. Discharge the refrigerant from the system following the recommended procedures.
  1. Remove the two bolts attaching the manifold to the compressor. Remove the manifold and O-rings.

Suction and Discharge Manifolds—Installation

  1. When replacing the discharge manifold, transfer the pressure relief valve to the new discharge manifold.

Installation

  1. Lubricate the new O-rings with clean refrigerant oil YN-9 (E73Z-19577-A) or equivalent. Position them in the O-ring grooves of the manifold.

NOTE: When replacing a compressor, use the original manifold bolts from the removed compressor to attach the manifolds to the new compressor. DO NOT USE the shipping cap bolts.

  1. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon® D8AZ-19554-A (ESG-M4G194-A) sealer to the threads of the new manifold retaining bolts.
  1. Position the manifold with O-rings to the compressor and install the two retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 28-36 Nm (21-26 lb-ft) for suction manifold or 20-27 Nm (15-19 lb-ft) for discharge manifold.
  1. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system following the recommended procedures. Observe all safety precautions. Refer to Section 12-00.
