REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Compressor

 

Removal

NOTE: Whenever a compressor is replaced, it will be necessary to replace the suction accumulator/drier.

  1. Discharge the system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions. Refer to Section 12-00.
  1. Remove accessory drive belt.
  1. Disconnect compressor clutch wires at field coil connector on compressor.
  1. Disconnect discharge and suction hoses from compressor manifolds. Cap refrigerant lines and compressor manifolds to prevent entrance of dirt and moisture.
  1. Remove two screws attaching brace-to-rear mounting bracket.
  1. Remove two screws attaching bracket-to-compressor lower front mounting lugs.
  1. Remove one screw attaching bracket-to-compressor upper mounting lug.
  1. Remove compressor/clutch assembly and rear support vehicle as unit.
  1. Remove two screws attaching compressor to rear support and remove rear support.
  1. If the compressor is to be replaced, remove clutch and field coil, assembly from compressor as outlined.
 

Installation

  1. A new service replacement 6P148 compressor contains 295.7ml (10 fluid oz) of the specified refrigerant oil. Prior to installing the replacement compressor, drain four fluid ounces of refrigerant oil from the compressor. This will maintain the total system oil charge within the specified limits.
  1. Reverse Steps 5 through 10 of Removal procedure.
  1. Using new O-rings lubricated with clean refrigerant oil, connect the suction and discharge lines to the compressor manifolds. Tighten suction line fittings to 28-36 Nm (21-26 lb-ft) and discharge line fitting to 20-27 Nm (15-19 lb-ft).
  1. Connect the clutch wires to the field coil connector.
  1. Install the accessory drive belt.
  1. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
  1. Check the system for proper operation.
