The rotational torque of a used compressor should be checked if excessive
compressor drag is suspected.
Discharge the refrigerant system following the recommended service
procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
Rotate the compressor shaft and note the torque required for one complete
rotation. Observe the torque while rotating the shaft, not the starting torque.
If the rotational torque exceeds 10 Nm (7 lb-ft), replace
the compressor assembly.
If the rotational torque is less than the specified rotational torque,
excessive drag does not exist in the compressor. Install the compressor. Then,
leak test, evacuate and charge the system.
