Instrument Panel Register Housing, Door, and Thumbwheel Assembly
Removal
Remove instrument panel register louver assembly as outlined.
Using a screwdriver, pry two upper and two lower tangs in housing out of
their seated positions in instrument panel.
Register Housing, Door and Thumbwheel Assembly
Pull housing out of opening in instrument panel.
If thumbwheel is to be removed, insert a screwdriver between wheel and
housing and twist so that wheel and wheel retainer will be pressed off stub
shaft.
An arm, which is integral with wheel, has a tang near its rear edge which
rides in an arc-shaped slot in register door to open and close door. When
thumbwheel and retainer are forced off stub shaft, it frees tang from slot in
register door. To remove door, flex it so that retaining tang in each upper
corner of door is pulled out of its mounting hole in register housing.
Installation
Position door in register housing. Flex door so that its mounting tangs may
be inserted into holes in register housing.
Position thumbwheel and retainer over stub shaft in housing. Engage tang on
thumbwheel arm in arc-shaped slot in door. Press thumbwheel and retainer into a
fully seated position on stub shaft. Rotate wheel to ensure that register door
operates properly.
Insert louver into register housing and press inward until it fully engages
with retainer in each side of housing.
