Child Safety Seat—Front, Convertible

The convertible has a dual locking mode retractor on lap belt portion of lap/shoulder belt at front passenger seat.

The automatic locking mode must be used when installing a child seat or infant carrier in front passenger seat.

If a child safety seat or infant carrier is installed in the front seat:

  1. Position child seat or infant carrier in front passenger seat of vehicle.
  1. Follow child seat or infant carrier manufacturer's instructions. Route lap/shoulder belt through child seat or infant carrier and insert belt tongue into buckle until the latch engages.

Follow manufacturer's instructions for belt routing.

  1. Grasp lap portion of belt below child seat label. Pull upward until all of belt is extracted and a click is heard. At this time, lap belt retractor is in automatic locking mode (child seat restraint mode).

  1. Allow belt to retract. A clicking sound will be heard as belt retracts. This indicates retractor is in automatic locking mode. Pull down on belt to remove any slack.

  1. Forcibly tilt seat from side to side, and also tug it forward to make sure that seat is securely held in place.

  1. Double check that retractor is in the automatic locking mode. Try to pull more belt out of retractor, if unable to, belt is in automatic locking mode.
  1. Check to make sure that child seat or infant carrier is properly secured prior to each use. If lap belt is not locked, repeat Steps 3 through 6.

Attaching Safety Seats with Tether Straps

Some manufacturers make safety seats with a tether strap that goes over the back of the vehicle seat and attaches to an anchoring point.

WARNING: FORD RECOMMENDS PLACEMENT OF TETHERED SAFETY SEATS IN A REAR SEATING POSITION WITH THE TETHER STRAP ATTACHED TO THE TETHER ANCHORING POINT.
