MAJOR SERVICE OPERATIONS

Safety Belt

The seat and shoulder safety belts are factory installed in their proper locations. If the belts are removed for any reason, they should be installed as shown in Removal and Installation. The 7/16 x 20 safety seat belt Torx® head anchor bolts should be hand started and then tightened to 30-40 Nm (23-29 lb-ft).

 

Without Anchor Plate Thread Damage

  1. Remove the damaged bolt from the anchor reinforcement and discard.
  1. Install a new bolt. Refer to Specifications for part number. Tighten to 30-40 Nm (23-29 lb-ft).
 

With Anchor Plate Thread Damage

  1. Remove the broken or stripped bolt and discard.
  1. Drill out the internal threads in the safety belt anchor plate with a 27/64-inch drill.
  1. Rethread the anchor plate with a 1/2-13 tap (safety belt).
  1. Blow out the chips.
  1. Install the attachment parts in the applicable sequence shown in Removal and Installation. Tighten the replacement bolt to 30-40 Nm (23-29 lb-ft). Original parts are to be replaced with the service parts indicated in the safety belt parts replacement chart at the end of this Section. Unless specified in the chart, use original parts.
 

Safety Belt Twisted at the "D" Ring

  1. Grasp belt webbing at the "D" ring.



  1. Rotate and fold the belt webbing over itself as required to remove the twist.
  1. Feed the folded portion of the belt through the "D" ring.
  1. When completed, safety belt tongue should face outward.



 

Safety Belt Tongue Rotated on the Belt

  1. Grasp belt tongue and pull down on belt webbing to form a loop through the upper (narrow and longer) slot in the tongue.



  1. Working within the upper slot, rotate and fold belt webbing over itself as required to remove the twist.
  1. Pull the excess belt webbing back through the upper slot in the tongue.
  1. Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 to complete the removal of the twist at the lower (wider and larger) slot in the tongue.



  1. When completed, safety belt tongue should face outward.
