DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Tether Attachment

2-Door

From inside luggage compartment looking underneath metal panel structure behind rear seat, locate one of two existing 9.0mm (0.35 inch) holes identified by the letter "T" stamped next to the holes. Each outboard hole is located approximately 330.2mm (13 inches) outboard from centerline of vehicle and along a line 101.6mm (4.5 inches) rearward from center of rear seat speaker.

Pierce a small locator hole upwards through the flat area of the trim panel behind rear seat.

CAUTION: Exercise caution to prevent hitting the rear window glass as it could shatter.

WARNING: AN ASSISTANT MUST BE INSIDE THE VEHICLE HOLDING THE REAR SEAT TRIM PANEL DOWN TO PREVENT IT FROM BEING DISLODGED. THEY MUST ALSO AVOID HOLDING IT DOWN IN THE AREA THAT THE HOLE IS BEING PIERCED TO AVOID HAND OR ARM INJURY.

From inside the vehicle, enlarge hole in trim panel until tether attachment bolt supplied in kit fits.

Install tether anchor hardware and tighten bolt to 22-34 Nm (17-25 lb-ft).

WARNING: USE ONLY THE METRIC ANCHOR BOLT AND NUT SUPPLIED IN THIS KIT.

Floorpan

Vehicles which have floorpan mounted tether attachments are supplied with two 8.0mm (M8 x 1.25) thread weld nuts attached to the underside of the floorpan. These are located approximately 51mm (2 inches) inboard and 38mm (1.5 inches) forward from rubber plug buttons near each wheelhouse. Each child tether hole is filled with soft sealer and covered by a heat bondable mastic.

From rear of vehicle, open liftgate or luggage compartment door and fold back carpet and insulator assembly.

Folding back carpet and insulator assembly will reveal a 38mm (1.5 inches) plug button on each side near each rear wheelhouse with or without trim panels.

NOTE: Do not remove the plug button(s).

From the existing plug button, measure approximately 51mm (2 inches) inboard and 38mm (1.5 inches) forward to locate child tether hole filled with sealer in floorpan. Carefully cut out the mastic material around sealer.

CAUTION: Use care not to damage the threaded nut in floorpan. DO NOT remove existing rubber plug button used as locators.

3-Door

To install, remove all sealer around hole to allow tether hardware to sit flush on sheet metal floorpan.

Replace carpet and sound insulator. Locate approximate center of exposed hole and cut an H slit in carpet.

Install tether anchorage hardware through H slit in carpet. Tighten bolt to 22-34 Nm (17-25 lb-ft).

WARNING: THE THREADED HOLES HAVE AN 8MM METRIC LOCKING THREAD. A WRENCH WILL BE NEEDED TO SCREW THE 8MM BOLT INTO THE LOCKING THREAD. SOME CHILD RESTRAINTS COME WITH A NON-METRIC BOLT WITH A DIFFERENT THREAD. DO NOT USE A NON-METRIC BOLT AS IT MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE TO SCREW IT ALL THE WAY INTO THE HOLE, RESULTING IN INADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE CHILD RESTRAINT. USE ONLY THE METRIC ANCHOR BOLT SUPPLIED IN THIS KIT.

Install the carpet and sound insulator.
