REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Motor and Pump

A pump repair kit and a reservoir repair kit is not available for service. A new unit is required to be installed if a failure occurs.

Removal

  1. Operate the top to the fully raised position.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. Disconnect the motor leads and the ground wire.

CAUTION: The reservoir must be vented in order to equalize the pressure. This minimizes the possibility of fluid spraying on the trim and paint when the hoses are disconnected.

  1. Vent the reservoir by removing and re-installing the filler plug. The plug is located on top of the reservoir.
  1. Place an absorbent cloth beneath the hose connections, disconnect the hoses, and plug the open fittings and lines.
  1. Remove the retaining nuts and washers and remove the motor and pump assembly from the floorpan. Exercise care to prevent loss of the rubber grommets.

Installation

  1. Remove the plugs from the lines and fittings, and connect the lines to the pump. Use cloth to absorb any fluid that leaks out of the lines or the pump.
  1. Install the assembly on the floorpan. Ensure the rubber grommets are in proper position under the mounting brackets.
  1. Connect the motor lead wires at the connector, and connect the ground wire.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
  1. Operate the top assembly two or three times to bleed any air from the system, and check the fluid level in the reservoir. The fluid level should not be less than 6.35mm (1/4 inch) below the filler plug opening. The top must be up when the fluid level is checked.
  1. Position the retaining clips on the rear folding top compartment support wire and install the retaining screws.
