REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

 WARNING: HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN GASES ARE PRODUCED DURING NORMAL BATTERY OPERATION. THIS GAS MIXTURE CAN EXPLODE IF FLAMES, SPARKS OR LIGHTED SUBSTANCES ARE BROUGHT NEAR THE BATTERY. WHEN CHARGING OR USING A BATTERY IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE, ALWAYS PROVIDE VENTILATION AND SHIELD YOUR EYES.

 WARNING: KEEP BATTERIES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. BATTERIES CONTAIN SULFURIC ACID. AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN, EYES OR CLOTHING. ALSO, SHIELD YOUR EYES WHEN WORKING NEAR THE BATTERY TO PROTECT AGAINST POSSIBLE SPLASHING OF THE ACID SOLUTION. IN CASE OF ACID CONTACT WITH THE SKIN, EYES OR CLOTHING, FLUSH IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER FOR A MINIMUM OF FIFTEEN MINUTES. IF ACID IS SWALLOWED, DRINK LARGE QUANTITIES OF MILK OR WATER, FOLLOWED BY MILK OF MAGNESIA, A BEATEN EGG, OR VEGETABLE OIL. CALL A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY.

Generator

 

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. Disconnect the wire harness attachments to the integral generator/regulator assembly. Pull the two connectors straight out.
  1. Loosen the generator pivot bolt. Remove the adjustment arm bolt from the generator.
  1. Disengage the accessory drive belt from the generator pulley.
  1. Remove the generator pivot bolt and generator/regulator assembly.
  1. Remove the generator fan shield, if so equipped.

Installation

  1. Position the integral generator/regulator assembly on the engine.
  1. Install the generator pivot and adjuster arm bolts, but do not tighten the bolts until the belt is tensioned.
  1. Install the accessory drive belt over the generator pulley.
  1. Tighten pivot bolt to 61-77 Nm (45-56 lb-ft) and adjustment arm bolt to 30-43 Nm (23-31 lb-ft).
  1. Connect the wiring harness to the generator/regulator assembly. Push the two connectors straight in.
  1. Attach the generator fan shield to the generator, if so equipped.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
