Speedometer Core and Casing

Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer head and push the cable and grommet through the opening in the floorpan or dash panel.

2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.

3. Disengage the cable from all retaining clips. Disconnect the cable from the transmission.

   NOTE: Remove the speedometer cable by pulling it out of the speed sensor. Do not attempt to remove the spring retainer clip with the speedometer in the sensor. To install the speedometer cable, snap it into the speed sensor.

4. Engage the new cable in the retaining clips and route it through the opening in the floorpan or dash panel. Push the grommet in place.

5. Lower the vehicle.

   NOTE: If the core has pushed out at the upper end of the cable, twist it slightly while pushing in to ensure that the squared end is engaged in the speedometer driven gear at the transmission.

6. When installing speedometer assembly, apply a 4.6mm (3/16 inch) diameter ball of Speedometer Cable Grease E6TZ-19581-A (ESF-M1C160-A) or equivalent in the drive hole of the speedometer head. Connect the cable to the head.
