REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Contact Assembly

 

Removal

  1. Make sure vehicle front wheels are in the straight ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at the 12 o'clock position.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable and air bag backup power supply.
  1. Remove steering wheel as outlined.
  1. Remove instrument panel lower trim panel and column shrouds.
  1. Disconnect contact assembly harness connector down column side.
  1. Apply two strips of tape across contact assembly stator and rotor to prevent rotation.
  1. Remove contact ring retaining screws and contact ring assembly.



 

Installation

  1. Make sure vehicle front wheels are in the straight ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at the 12 o'clock position.
  1. Align contact assembly to column shaft and install.
  1. Install three retaining screws and tighten to 2-3 Nm (18-26 lb-in).
  1. Route contact assembly wiring down column assembly and connect harness connector. Remove tape strips.
  1. If installing a new contact assembly, remove locking mechanism.
  1. Install column shrouds and lower instrument panel trim panel.
  1. Install steering wheel as outlined.
  1. Connect air bag backup power supply and battery ground cable.
