REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Clockspring Assembly

 

Removal

Tools Required:

  1. Make sure vehicle front wheels are in the straight ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at the 12 o'clock position.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable and air bag backup power supply.
  1. Remove steering wheel as outlined. Refer to Section 11-04.
  1. Remove tilt lever, if equipped.
  1. Remove instrument panel lower trim panel and column shrouds.
  1. Disconnect contact assembly harness connector down column side.
  1. Apply two strips of tape across contact assembly stator and rotor to prevent accidental rotation.
  1. Remove contact assembly retaining screws and lift contact assembly off steering column shaft.



 

Installation

  1. Make sure vehicle front wheels are in the straight ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at the 12 o'clock position.
  1. Align contact assembly to column shaft and mounting bosses and install.
  1. Install three retaining screws and tighten to 2-3 Nm (18-26 lb-in).
  1. Route contact assembly wiring down column assembly and connect harness connector. Remove tape strips.
  1. If installing a new contact assembly, remove locking mechanism after assembly is secured to column.
  1. Install column shrouds and lower instrument panel trim panel.
  1. Install tilt lever, if removed.
  1. Install steering wheel as outlined.
  1. Connect air bag backup power supply and battery ground cable.
