REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

Removal

NOTE: The throttle position sensor can only be removed after the idle air control (IAC) valve has been removed from the throttle body.

  1. Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve as outlined.
  1. Disconnect throttle position sensor from the wiring harness.
  1. Remove the two throttle position sensor retaining screws.
  1. Remove the throttle position sensor and gasket.

Installation

CAUTION: Slide rotary tangs into position over throttle shaft blade, then rotate TP sensor CLOCKWISE ONLY to installed position. Failure to install the throttle position sensor in this manner may result in excessive idle speeds.

  1. Position the throttle position sensor and gasket on the throttle body. Make sure that rotary tangs on sensor are in proper alignment with the throttle shaft blade.
  1. Secure sensor to throttle body with two retaining screws. Tighten to 2.8-3.8 Nm (25-33 lb-in).
  1. Install the idle air control (IAC) valve as outlined.
  1. Connect electrical connectors to both the throttle position sensor and the idle air control (IAC) valve from the harness.

NOTE: This throttle position sensor is not adjustable.

  1. When all fuel injection service has been completed, make final adjustment of the idle speed, if necessary. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual.
