IN VEHICLE SERVICE

Oil Pan

Tools Required:

 

Removal

  1. Raise hood and cover fenders. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. Remove oil level indicator from LH side of cylinder block.
  1. Remove air cleaner tube.
  1. Remove fan shroud retaining bolts and position shroud over the fan.
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  1. Drain crankcase. Remove oil level sensor wiring from oil pan.
  1. Remove starter motor retaining bolts and electrical connections. Remove starter motor from vehicle.
  1. Remove exhaust catalyst converter and muffler inlet pipes.
  1. Remove engine mount-to-No. 2 crossmember retaining bolts or nuts.
  1. Remove No. 3 crossmember and rear insulator support assemblies.
  1. Remove steering gear retaining bolts and position steering gear forward out of the way.
  1. Raise and support engine in a position that allows for clearance for oil pan removal.
  1. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and lower oil pan to No. 2 crossmember.
  1. Remove oil pump and pickup tube attaching bolts. Allow oil pump and pickup tube assembly to drop into oil pan.
  1. Remove oil pan from vehicle.
 

Installation

  1. Clean the oil pan and inspect for damage.
  1. Clean the oil pan gasket surface on the cylinder block.
  1. With oil pump and pickup tube assembly positioned in the oil pan, install oil pump and then install oil pan and gasket. Tighten the 1/4 inch oil pan bolts to 9-14 Nm (80-120 lb-in) and the 5/6 inch oil pan bolts to 16-24 Nm (12-18 lb-ft).
  1. Lower engine onto engine insulators and install engine mount-to-No. 2 crossmember retaining bolts or nuts. Tighten to 108-144 Nm (80-106 lb-ft).
  1. Position steering gear and install retaining bolts. Refer to Group 11.
  1. Install the starter motor and reconnect electrical connections. Connect oil level sensor wire to oil pan.
  1. Install rear insulator as outlined. Install No. 3 crossmember. Tighten attaching bolts to 108-144 Nm (80-106 lb-ft).
  1. Install exhaust catalyst converter.
  1. Install muffler inlet pipes.
  1. Partially lower vehicle.
  1. Position fan shroud in place, install retaining screws and tighten to specification.
  1. Install oil level indicator to side of cylinder block.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
  1. Fill crankcase with oil.
  1. Install air cleaner tube.
  1. Apply parking brake and, while holding foot on brake, start engine and allow to run for a few minutes.
  1. Turn engine OFF and check for oil.
  1. Lower vehicle fully and remove fender covers.
  1. Close hood.
